Configure CuraCourse Tutor

At a glance

CuraCourse Tutor levels are in beta. The Tutor is the learner-facing helper on a lesson — labeled Tutor in Lesson Settings. It is not the instructor Assistant in the editor.

You turn it on per page and choose how much of the student’s work it can see. Because this is beta, try it on a practice lesson and tell us what is missing. Profile icon → Get support or Give feedback.

Prerequisites

  • Open an Interactive Content page or Code Exercise. The Tutor is not available on exams, open-response pages, file-upload pages, or Linux machine pages.
  • Lesson open → Lesson Settings in the right sidebar. See Lesson Settings: group work & Tutor.
  • CuraCourse Tutor is available on Core and Pro, not Starter. See Course Billing.

Turn it on and pick a level

  1. Open the lesson in instructor view.
  2. Open Lesson Settings.
  3. Turn on Tutor.
  4. Choose a Tutor level. Changes save automatically.

When it is on, learners see a Tutor control on that page.

Levels

LevelNameWhat it can do
1Socratic content helpAnswers questions about this page. Cannot see learner work.
2Work-aware feedbackCan see learner work and give feedback in chat. Does not edit code.
3AI-assisted codingCan suggest inline code edits in a Code Editor. The learner accepts or rejects each suggestion.

The Tutor will not hand out answer keys, hidden test expected output, or a complete solution to a graded exercise. At level 2 and 3 it may discuss the student’s own work on the page.

Common gotchas

  • This feature is in beta. Capabilities may still change.
  • The Tutor is off by default. Turning it on for one page does not turn it on for the whole course.
  • It is not available on exams.
  • Level 3 only proposes edits to student-visible, editable Code Editor files, and only when the student asks. Hidden or read-only files are not edited.
  • This is not the Assistant. The Assistant helps you write the lesson; levels control what students can ask while they learn.
