Categorize

What this block does

A Categorize Activity asks students to drag items into categories. Use it to distinguish related concepts, classify examples, or check whether students can apply a rule.

How to use it

1. In lesson Edit mode, type / and choose Categorize Activity.
2. Name the categories and add the items to classify.
3. Assign each item to its correct category in the instructor solution.
4. Set the block’s Points and preview the learner view. Items are shuffled for students.
5. Test correct and incorrect placements before publishing.

Example

Create categories Physical change and Chemical change. Add Melting ice, Cutting paper, and Rusting iron, then assign each to its correct category.

Grading and practice

The activity checks each item against its assigned category. Keep labels unambiguous and review the saved solution if a placement is rejected. Add Instant Feedback for practice checks, or use normal lesson submission for assessment.
