# Preview and publish

> Publish the learner version, check availability, and create a join code for an enrollment period.

## Publish the lesson students should see
Open the lesson in edit mode. When it is ready, use **Publish & Exit** in the editor banner. Students read the published version; changing a draft does not by itself replace that version. A page linked to a book may require a local copy before it can be edited and published.

## Check availability and assessment
Review the lesson’s access policy and publication schedule. Test the learner view, including any prerequisites and submission limits. Instructor preview can bypass restrictions, so preview alone is not proof that an enrolled student can access the page.

## Create a classroom join code
1. Open the course settings and choose **Course Join Codes**.
2. Choose **Create Join Code**.
3. Choose the role and required enrollment period. For student access, use a learner code and an active enrollment period.
4. Create the code, copy it, and share it with your class through your usual classroom channel.
5. Send students the [joining instructions](https://www.curacourse.com/help/join-a-course).

Enrollment periods are managed by the organization. If no active period is available, ask an organization administrator to configure one before distributing the learner code.

## Confirm the payment arrangement
Check **Billing** in course settings. Learner-paid courses use the selected learner plan. Institution seat billing is managed at the organization level. An invitation or join code does not automatically mean the learner’s payment requirement is covered. Explain the arrangement before students begin.

## Troubleshoot access
If a student cannot open a lesson, check course membership, enrollment period, published version, availability policy, and payment status. If only an AI or code activity is blocked, review its plan requirements and the course’s shared usage pools. [Contact support](https://www.curacourse.com/contact?topic=support) with the course and error message if those checks do not resolve it.
