## At a glance

When a learner can’t open a lesson or you see unexpected gates, check **Access Policy**, view-as mode (live vs submitted), and whether you’re bypassing restrictions as staff.

## Prerequisites

- Instructor access to the course and lesson.

## Steps

1. **Lesson missing from outline**

   - Open **Access Policy** → **All Learners** (or the learner’s cohort/group policy).
   - Confirm visibility: **Not visible** vs **Visible** / **Visible at** in the future.
2. **Password or lock screen**

   - Check **Locked** on the policy; verify password, **Unlock at**, and **Relock at** times.
   - As staff, use **Learner List** → select learner → **Bypass access restrictions** to reproduce without the password.
3. **Payment or enrollment banners**

   - On the course page, learners may need payment or an enrollment period; check **Course Roster** badges and **Billing** settings.
4. **You expected grades but see live edits**

   - **Learner List** shows **live work**; open **Lightning Grader** for submitted snapshots.
5. **Group work required**

   - Ensure **Lesson Settings** → **Group Work** and assignment group membership are configured.

## Common gotchas

- Multiple policies can apply to different cohorts—verify the learner’s cohort matches the policy you edited.
- View-as banner must show **Exit** when finished so you don’t confuse your own instructor view.
